In reference to my first review: Reviewed by Cris. Review Posted 17/06/2014. My replacement drive was packaged in EXACTLY. THE. SAME. WAY. Not improved packaging here. I'm looking for more drives for my NAS so thought I'd add this here for others quickly, I'd never buy a drive from BT. Another of these drives is now failing in my NAS and I attribute that entirely to the way it was shipped. 2 out of 3 failures, thanks BT. BT didn't, and from more recent reviews, appear still have not fixed this. It's just an email to the warehouse guys, how hard is that?

I have two Netgear NAS systems and they were populated with 2TB WD "Green" drives which performed well enough. Once I needed to expand the required space I decided to try the 4TB "Red" drives (the NAS systems can't handle the 6Tb ones :( ) and it was a good choice. They are just as quiet as the "Green" drives and, more importantly, noticeably faster :) I've been swapping them out one by one since I can't fund swapping them all at once and I've had no problems :) - Some of them have been in use for a couple of years now and I've had no issues with any of them... :)
I didn't have the packaging issues mentioned by other people.
I haven't tried the two drives I've just purchased - fingers crossed the're all ok. The packaging is as described by the previous reviewer - carboard in a plastic bag. Nothing to absorb shock. For something like this bubble wrap is the obvious safe choice. Until this improves, no more purchases from BT for me.

I've dropped you a full response via email however please note we read all feedback from our customers and in this instance I wanted to ensure you were aware it’s a known issue that we are taking steps to rectify. Since receiving some feedback from our customers in recent weeks we have taken steps to investigate and I want to assure you we are in the process of overhauling the packaging we send our HDDs out in and have a temporary measure in place to improve the protection of all drives that get despatched. Hopefully with this knowledge you can see our commitment to improving customer experience and not be dissuaded from buying from dabs.com again soon. I'd like to echo the previous review. I ordered two of these and they arrived each in the standard anti static bag inside a thin cardboard wrap, both were delivered inside one of those grey plastic parcel bag things. No bubble wrap at all. One was a DOA and I'm really surprised both weren't dead considering they way they were shipped. I will be keeping a close eye on the second drive from this order. Once again I would suggest BT take a look at the way they send out HDDs before WD/Seagate etc start asking questions regarding the number of returns they're being sent. I chose to return the drive with an anti static bag, inside the cardboard wrap and in a box full of packaging noodles, be nice if my replacement was sent the same way! You can even use the same box again! ;) Rating the product high, but would mark the shipping as 1.
Thanks Cris, as per my other comment response, we've taken action on the basis of feedback and hope to have erradicated the issues packaging has been causing for customers. UPDATE: Sept 2014: these issues have now been fully addressed and rectified with appropriate packaging.
As an 'overseas territory' resident i was a bit concerned about the postal packaging comments. But having had orders from BT (Dabs) before without issues i decided to not let it put me off. Product came perfectly packaged in a 'foam casing' inside a very sturdy cardboard box covered with a plastic postal/waterproof protection. No issues there ! mounted in a Nas now and working as it should !
Ordered 2x 4TB Drives. Despite telephone and email confirmation (prior to order) that these hard drives are sold in Western Digital RETAIL packaging.... they are NOT. Received in folded cardboard with layer of protective foam - inside a jiffy bag (which had split along the seam half way). I will be buying my other 4 drives elsewhere.
Thanks for your review, can you tell me who mentioned they were in retail packaging? All these drives unless stated as retail are OEM and thus packaged by BT in our warehouses.
This is a quality product but appears to be supplied to BT in a thin cardboard wrapper. BT than post it out in a thin single sheet bubble wrap envelope. Not surprisingly 1 out of the 4 I ordered was DOA. The WD returns procedure specifies you must use 2 inches of bubble wrap. Such a shame all these expensive electronics devices are being wasted through poor packaging procedures by the manufacturer and the retailers.

I'd like to update you to the fact we have recently made some changes after customer feedback to HDD packaging and have taken steps to ensure it's now vastly improved to ensure issues like yours do not happen again. Once again we take customer feeback very seriously and always aim to take action to improve our processes and procedures. UPDATE: Sept 2014: these issues have now been fully addressed and rectified with appropriate packaging.
Unfortunately, dispute the previous notes about improved packaging my drive arrived in a cardboard carton with only a thin layer of form wrapped around it. The result is that the drive was faulty and locked up my NAS at around 5% into the formatting process.
