It's quick - easily as quick as the more expensive USB2 enclosures I already own. Setup was a breeze (no drivers required on XP as you'd expect). It looks quite different from the picture - mine was actually flat silver aluminium sides and looked more stylish. The drive rails themselves feel cheaply made, but once in the enclosure it feels very solid, and once it's installed you don't open it again anyway. Certainly can't complain at this price. It's a great little bargain if (like me) you have some IDE or SATA drives kicking around that would be put to good use for backups. I highly recommend the free TrueCrypt software to sit alongside the drive, so you can encrypt your backups too. You can install truecrypt on the drive so even the encryption is plug-and-play,
My case was different from the one pictured in that it is silver but flat. It's not ugly but the big bold lettering on the side telling me what it is isn't exactly discreet.
The drive is a tight fit in the tray that slides into the metal case, so tight I didn't see the need for the fastening screws. The drive's certainly not going to go anywhere.
It comes with power and data connectors for the old IDE interface and SATA drives. I found the SATA cable a bit on the long side, so you have to be a little careful not to pinch it in the case.
Conversely, the cable that goes to the PSU brick is so short it has to sit on the desktop with the drive. One of those plug in PSU's would have been a neater option.
There's an on off switch but no fan and the case does get warm after a few hours. Whether the convection from the metal case is enough to keep the drive cool enough over long periods is unknown.
It's good value & I wont have it on for long as I just use it for Windows 7 system images.
Don't waste your money - buying this was false economy and I'm regretting it massively. When it works, it works well but unfortunately it works about one time in every five that I try and use it. On the other four occasions it either doesn't show up at all, cuts me off in the middle of trying to access the disk, or Windows tells me the drive needs formatting.
Poor product. Spend a few more pounds and get something reliable.
The product is very cheap quality I would not recommend it to anyone. The power cable is very loose and keeps coming off all the time. Very disappointed.
