Which Speakers Are Best For High-End Gaming Rigs?

Sound is something that should definitely not be compromised on with high-end gaming rigs.

There are many options and set-ups available to you so we’ll try and break it down for you with this guide:

Different Set-Ups

Surround Sound Layout Consists of
2.0 Front left & front right speakers.
2.1 Front left, front right & subwoofer.
3.1 Front left, front right, front centre & subwoofer.
5.1 Front left, front right, front centre, back left, back right & subwoofer.
7.1 Front left, front right, front centre, back left, back right, side left & side right.
9.1 Front left, front right, front centre, back left, back right, side left, side right, high front left & high front right.

You may find other variations but the above are the most common. It is also possible to have 2 subwoofers (‘.2’).

Be aware that around 95% of PC games are made for 5.1 surround sound and any extra speakers will not have a huge impact, if any at all.

Budget

As with most things, budget is the most important thing to take into account when choosing your speakers.

Although it might be tempting to opt for a decent 5.1 set up, unless you pay that little bit extra, the chances are that a 2.1/ 3.1 set up might be just as powerful, if not better. Keep that in mind as we often speak to customers who wish they’d opted for a more powerful set up with less speakers.

For the majority of gamers, 50 watts is enough. However, if you’re wanting to crank up the volume then you can go for anything up to 1,000 watts.

Please keep in mind though that wattage isn’t always everything and you can often find more expensive sound systems with low wattage but incredibly loud and clear sound, confusing we know…

Should You Opt For 2.0 Or 5.1?

If we were choosing a surround sound system for BT Shop’s gaming rig, we’d definitely opt for a 5.1 set up. Reason being, the majority of games at the moment are only made for 5.1 and adding any additional speakers will rarely have an impact.
